Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of navigable canals, and many homes back onto water. Canal-front landscapes have to handle seawall buffers, sandy fill soil and, on saltwater canals, salt spray, while still looking finished from the street and from the water.
Most of the city irrigates with reclaimed water through its dual-water system, which has its own watering days assigned by the last digit of the address. Controllers set to the wrong day or window are one of the most common problems we see, and one of the easiest to fix.
The city also has one of the stricter fertilizer ordinances in the area, with a 15-foot buffer from seawalls and water. Our maintenance programs follow it.

Watering days are set by the last digit of your address: 0 to 2 water Monday and Thursday, 3 to 5 Tuesday and Friday, 6 and 7 Wednesday and Saturday, 8 Wednesday and Sunday, and 9 Thursday and Sunday. Each group has its own four-hour overnight window, and new landscaping has a separate 90-day schedule.
Reclaimed water irrigation
The city's dual-water program, running since the late 1980s, irrigates with reclaimed water from two reclamation plants, supplemented by water pumped from freshwater canals. Supply and pressure can change seasonally, so we check controllers and coverage on every irrigation visit.
Fertilizer ordinance
City Ordinance 79-21 bans fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus from June 1 to September 30 and during storm watches and warnings, requires at least 50% slow-release nitrogen, and keeps fertilizer 15 feet from seawalls and water. Commercial applicators must complete UF/IFAS best-practices training and carry a city decal.
Landscape code for new homes
New single-family homes and duplexes must meet a minimum tree count, with credit for Florida-native plantings, and invasive species must be removed before a certificate of occupancy. We can plan new-home landscapes to those requirements.
