Marco Island, Florida
Marco Island is the largest barrier island in the Ten Thousand Islands, with about six miles of beach and more than 100 miles of waterways. Salt spray, wind and sandy soil decide which plants thrive here, and they make regular pruning, irrigation checks and clean-up after storms part of normal care.
Waterfront homes, condominium grounds and commercial properties all share those conditions. Plants chosen for salt tolerance, irrigation that reaches the right beds, and fertilizing done by the city's rules keep a coastal landscape looking settled rather than stressed.
The city also has its own fertilizer permit process and protections for mangroves and wildlife, so we confirm what a project needs before work starts.

The City of Marco Island sets its own landscape rules. These are the ones most likely to affect your property.
No fertilizer from June 1 to September 30 or when heavy rain is forecast. Fertilizer must be at least 50% slow-release nitrogen and kept 10 feet from watercourses, lakes, wetlands and storm drains, with a deflector shield. The city requires a fertilizer permit application one business day before applying.
The city sets its own irrigation schedule and has changed it during dry periods, including a temporary two-day schedule in 2023. Check the city's current schedule before resetting a controller. We program controllers to the schedule in force.

Clearing vegetation on a vacant lot generally needs a city permit. Mangrove trimming is regulated by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and gopher tortoises require a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission permit before clearing.
Barrier-island landscapes do best with salt-tolerant plants, mulch that holds moisture in sandy soil, and irrigation that reaches beds rather than paving. After storms, debris clean-up and pruning come first.
